We are one of the very few companies in the UK that specialise in repairing the Porsche 996 and Boxster 6 speed getrag manual transmissions.

We have a 100% repair success rate with these gearboxes.

We repair gearboxes for private and trade customers including a large percentage of the Porsche specialist network in the U.K. We have all the necessary parts,tooling and experience to repair these gearboxes right first time ! We are currently carrying out no less than 4 rebuilds a week.

We are also very experienced in all Porsche manual transmission overhauls from 1960-2009.

We also specialise in the overhaul and modification of Turbo, Gt3 and Gt2 gearboxes anything from noisy bearings ,synchros, "typical" 2nd gear pop out or limited slip diff installations.

All of our manual gearboxes we rebuild are modified internally as much as 10 modifications per rebuild to ensure correct depth of shift sleeves, engagement of gears and preloading of shift forks is but a few, these have been tried and tested and all prolong the service life of the internal components.

We have a dedicated clean engine and gearbox rebuild facility, all tooling is on custom made tool boards for easy access.The room has the following equipment;

*Colchester Master 2500 Toolroom Lathe and milling machine with digital readout(for undertaking complex machining tasks)

*Grinding equipment for grinding pre-load shims and specialist 1 off pinion shaft grinding for clearance issues on custom builds such as Ultima Track Cars

*Mig and Tig welding machines (allows welding of mild steel,stainless steel and aluminium)

*75Tonne hydraulic/air-pneumatic press which is needed to dismantle and assemble the 996/986 Getrag gearbox

*2 Manual Parts washers and cleaners

*Fully automatic hot wash parts cleaner

*Hot plate for heating gears and bearings to allow correct interference fitment

*Soda blasting cabinet for careful safe cleaning of engine and gearbox casing's. Soda blasting is one of the safest process to clean engine and gearbox casings as the soda is water soluble.

The automatic gearbox in the 911 models from 2002 onwards can at times develop a leak from between the end casing on the rear of the gearbox, there are no parts available through the official Porsche parts system to repair these faults and as such a new transmission is the only way to have this fault rectified according to many Porsche service centre's.....

Sports and Classic Ltd can repair this common fault and guarantee it is leak free! We have carried out over 60 of these repairs and they are all still working correctly and leak free. Our first repair was over 10 years ago !

This repair process does involve removing the engine and gearbox to carry out the repair. we can also just repair the transmission if shipped in to us.

What Parts Are Replaced In a 996/986 2nd Gear Fault?

First off the gearbox is dismantled and put through the automatic parts hot washer, it is then inspected and any additional parts required outside our set menu price are priced up and emailed over to the customer for authority. Our repair kit includes: * 2nd Gear (Loose) * 1st/2nd shift sleeve * 2nd Gear Synchroniser ring assembly * All seals and detent springs replaced * 3rd gear thrust washer replaced.
All labour to strip, clean, inspect and rebuild is included in our fixed price menu. We do carry out adjustments to spring loads and gear heights in our fixed price too.
